A quick detour

posted by Kerry-Anne

I had to drive out to Stellenbosch yesterday to fetch my driver's licence (our licences have to be renewed every 5 years - what's the rule in your country?), so I took a little detour to buy some yummy lemon butter biscuits and get a photo for you. This was taken at a deli and restaurant close to Stellenbosch (which is about 40 minutes from the centre of Cape Town). Stellenbosch is wine country, and in the background you can see just a small portion of the farmlands stretching out over the horizon.

This little detour is a pleasure for us! And answering to your question, in France, our driver's licence is valid for all life...except if we infringe the laws of course!

When you say "on your birthday", do you actually mean ON your birthday? Or can you renew somewhere close to your birthday? Doesn't seem like a fun thing to do on the best day of the year. :-)

As Alice previously said, French driving licences does not need to renewed if the driver do not break the law. What she did not mention is that every French driving licence provides a maximum of 12 points that you may loose if you break the law. The number of the points you loose depends on the fault you achieved. When no point remains, your licence is suspended.
