It's getting colder... time to shop.

posted by Kerry-Anne
It was a rather gloomy day today - autumn is here, for sure. This is one of the many entrances to the Canal Walk shopping centre, which is definitely my favourite Cape Town mall. It feels very spacious inside, and features all the big South African chains, as well as quite a few boutique stores. More than that, the mall is set in beautiful surroundings, with the canal giving it a rather special atmosphere.

When you mentioned "South African chains" I tried to imagine what the names might be. In malls here close to our home we find stores like Sears, Penny, Kohl and many others. I don't know much about store names or brands in South Africa. I apologize for my ignorance. I am old and time is short and I have no idea what your best selling loaf of bread is named where you live.

Hey, thanks for the warm greetings, and for keeping me close to Cape Town.

Oh Cape Town, I love you madly, love you madly all the same...

>mandi, i was at woolies today actually, buying some vegetables... i'll get a shot of one of the new woolies 24-hour foodstops as soon as they open. :)

>abraham, no need to apologise - that's what these blogs are for! I think we only know the American chains like Walmart because we see them on our TV and cinema screens fairly regularly. Our main grocery stores are Pick 'n Pay, Shoprite Checkers, and Woolworths. For clothing, some of the big names are Foschini, Truworths and Edgars. Next time I post a picture of a shopping mall, I'll give you some more. It didn't even occur to me... And I have no idea which bread is the best-selling one, but we buy Albany - it has the biggest slices. :)

>daniel, thanks for stopping by! And thanks for the Just Jinger song that's now stuck in my head... :) Hope you keep enjoying our blog.
