Red sky at night

posted by Kerry-Anne
The weather today was a little strange - there was plenty of heavy mist and cloud around this morning, and it was quite chilly until mid-morning (I put on two long-sleeved tops). The afternoon was really warm (I changed to short sleeves), and then at around 4pm the clouds came back again (I fetched my jersey). The only thing missing was rain - and we really could do with some of that over the next few months. The weather forecaster says there's a slight chance of some on Thursday - let's hold thumbs.

At the beginning of April our dams were just 53% full (30% down from December), and certain water restrictions are now permanently in place (for instance, we may not water our gardens between 10am and 4pm, and we may not use drinkable water for hosing down driveways or paved areas). Do you have any water restrictions in your city?

We had it last summer there were many problems with water, and everything was so dry, parks without green... at least this year has been raining a lot, and i think this summer will be really different!

But what an amazing photo!! it's so great! congratulations!

Fantastic shot. Well done. I've been experimenting with sunsets like this, and have met with limited success.

Where I live (PNG) there has been so much rain we have roads washed away but where I come from (Brisbane) - the dams are down to 19% capacity and they cannot wash the car or the dog, hose the lawn, top up the pool and everyone must have no more than a 4 minute shower. People put buckets in the shower to catch the excess water and use this on their plants. Melbourne may run out of water next year if they don't have flooding rains. Climate change is well and truly upon us.

By the way - great sunset.

>jules, wow, it sounds like things are pretty bad in Brisbane - 19% capacity?! I could go without washing the car (happily), and I don't have a dog or a pool, but a 4-MINUTE SHOWER? Ouch. I'd have to cut my hair - there's no way I could get this washed in 4 minutes... Last year during summer (2005/2006) we had one of those big black tubs in the shower, which we stood in while we showered, so we could re-use the water for our garden - we weren't allowed to use potable water on our gardens at all.

>dan and dsole, thanks, paul took this shot - I'll make sure he sees your compliments. :)

Honestly, your morning weather sounded like our weather yesterday and today. Your sunset is quite nice though.

I got to fly last night. I mean I just dove in and flew. You can find out how on my blog post today.

Bravo Paul for this beautiful shot! Kerry-Anne, you made me laugh with your story about long and short sleeves. And yes, we had water restrictions these last years (even if Brittany is said a very soaked area...)but, like Dsole wrote about Madrid, we had so much rain last winter that we hope it will be enough for next summer. Water is VERY expensive here, it helps to take care of it!

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Even though the photo may look nice enough, in comparison to what was actually painted in the sky it looks pretty ordinary :).
