Fur with attitude

posted by Paul

When visiting Cape Town's more leafy areas you're bound to see an abundance of squirrels. Though skittish, they're still tame enough to collect peanuts from children's hands. While I was composing these shots one over-zealous squirrel missed the peanut and nipped a small girl's finger instead. Although... perhaps he didn't "miss" the peanut at all, and was rather expressing his annoyance at a poor-quality nut. All was fine though; I don't believe any blood was drawn :o.

My favorites are the top left and bottom right. They are all so cute though.

Nice collage! In France, all the squirrels are red and very shy (you can't see them in a public garden, only in wild spaces if you're lucky), I've always seen grey ones in UK or US, don't know why...

I am SO IMPRESSED Paul!! The only pictures I have of squirrels (after chasing them for hours) were tails disappearing up trees, behind logs, and under parked vehicles. I obviously need some hints on taking photos of wild animals from you and Abraham Lincoln!!!!

The red squirrels Alice has are indeed timid creatures. Here in the UK they have reduced in number considerably having been hounded out by the grey squirrel -- often referred to as a tree rat.

In parks here too they are often found and will approach close the people. Saw then recently in Chester -- http://ackworthborn.blogspot.com/2007/06/today-in-chester.html
