Their name liveth for evermore

The inscription on this gun reads "...to the memory of all artillerymen who laid down their lives for their country."War is never good - people tell me that it's sometimes a necessary evil. I've had the privilege of not having to make that decision, so I don't know; but hats off to all who have died defending those who could not defend themselves.
This 14.5-inch Howitzer can be found above the Company Gardens in Cape Town. It was first dedicated in 1926 to the soldiers who died in France in the First World War and later, in 1970, to soldiers who died in both World Wars.
This memorial reminded me of the Tomb of an Unknown Soldier that we saw in Paris, below the Arc de Triomphe.

War is hell. It seems to be the event all countries turn to in an effort to solve problems. We have a huge artillery piece in front of our VFW post. Anyway. the post you made is interesting and a good message is there for all to read.

Yes I agree - especially at this time with some many conflicts raging around the world. Innocent people are always the worst hit but I do think blogs like this make us realise that no matter where we are from we all have similar needs and dreams and if more people blogged then there may be more peace in the world!!!!
