Another fruity experience

Someone commented on a previous post about this shop, mentioning that 12.99ZAR per kilogram (1.30USD, 0.85GBP, 1EUR) is very cheap for fresh apricots. This price isn't very expensive, but I wouldn't say that it's cheap either.I'm always interested to know how much food costs in different parts of the world, so if you have a moment, leave a comment and let us know what apricots cost where you live.

I think we pay about 85 pence per apricot.
In the northern U.S. we don't even see fresh apricots this time of year...we have to settle with dried.
in France they cost between 35 and 40 Rands. Unleaded petrol cost R 18 a liter. Lucky you in SA

@Obnoxio - 85 pence PER APRICOT?! Gosh. That's pretty steep.
@ExAfrica - I think apricots are just coming into season here now.
@Anonymous - I remember when we were in France in 2006, we were surprised to see that petrol was around R13 or R14 a litre.
So, basically, I should be rushing out and buying huge bags of apricots, is what you're all saying? :P
at that price you can buy a few kilos and send them to me. I will make jam and send it back to you!!!

If I could get fresh apricots they would most likely be imported and from SA and I would expect to pay at 4 or 5 times that price...when I go shopping at the weekend I'll see if I can find any!!
I shall definitely be buying more than a kilo if they're still around when I get there in Jan.
You may be interested in knowing we paid last weekend R7 for just one lemon making our slice of lemon in a G&T quite expensive!
Anonymouse - :) cheap apricots, expensive postage... ;)
Beverley - We have a couple of lemon trees in our back yard. They've been producing fruit for quite some time now. You should just have asked, I would have shipped over a slice or two. :P
