Air show at Ysterplaat

Gripen Fighter
This weekend sees the Africa Aerospace and Defence expo taking place at Cape Town's Ysterplaat (which translated literally refers to a sheet of iron) air force base. I visited today to get a small preview of what would be happening over the following three days.

Although the little bit that I saw was awesome, unfortunately the weather never played along so we were rained out by around mid day! Fortunately for you (if you're in Cape Town, that is) rain isn't forecasted for Friday and Saturday, however rain is set to dampen Sunday visitors - so be there early this weekend! :)

Our friends from the USA may like to know that 11 of your country's USAF air crafts have landed at Ysterplaat to join in with the expo. Although... I just think they're keeping an eye on us. ;)

Living in Cape Town is thought of a great privilege sometimes. And to be able to see the airshow virtually on your doorstep fantastic. Weather? We learn to live with it – it could be worse. Here’s hoping all that visit will have a good time, and those that take part – have fun!! That’s what flying is all about.

Thanks for the message Rudi – you are indeed privileged to have a front row seat each day!

Ali, I’m not into war at all – hell, I don’t even like killing insects unless it’s really necessary… but something about guns and fighter planes gets me going! I’d love to take a flight in one of these and blow up a bunch of stuff. I’m thinking Iron Eagle baby! :D

The same here, Paul. Instead of military service, I did alternative civilian serivce. I also kill insect only if absolutely necessary. I think, demolishing things is also a men’s dream. :D
