H8M Fire hydrant close by!
In yesterday's post I asked if anyone knew what the H28FT sign posted high up on lamp posts means.

Based on a few comments and an email it seems that consensus is that the sign indicates that there's a fire hydrant 8 meters (or, as in yesterday's post, 28 feet) from the lamp post. In retrospect, based on the shape of the sign I guess should have been obvious. :)

    HI IM A FIREFIGHTER FOR THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN AND H8M STANDS FOR : THE H IS FOR HYDRANT AND THE 8M IS THERE IS FIRE HYDRANT 8M IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SIGN.

    Hi Ryno, thanks for the info – can you tell us a little more about the colour please? Besides for this red/orange one, what others does one get, and what do they mean?

    Hi paul the following colours was used in the past:
    Red with white lettering means 1000 Kpa
    Blue with white lettering means 700-800 Kpa
    White with black lettering means 500 Kpa and below

    But that has changed,today the CITY OF CAPE TOWN
    FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE
    Use only the yellow with black lettering.
