Girls, lifeguards and blue flags

If you've been following this blog it will be no surprise to you which beach is being featured today. Clifton 4th beach, obviously. :)The guy and girl sitting on the unusually high chairs are lifeguards watching over bathers. We watched for some time as about 10 people practised their lifesaving skills by dragging a "victim" from the ocean; and unlike my brief description here, watching this mock-rescue was actually fairly entertaining.
Clifton 4th is classified as a Blue Flag beach, meaning that it complies with certain quality requirements set forward by the Foundation for Environmental Education.
In this case "quality" doesn't refer to how beautiful the people on the beach are (though if it did, Clifton would retain its status, no doubt). Instead it refers to a number of criteria in the following categories:
- Bather environmental education and information
- Water quality
- Environmental management
- Safety and services

I so needed a photo like this today as we woke to a snowy scene outside our windows and yes it is cold!!
Don't worry Bev, we'll keep a good stock of this warm weather for when you guys are here. :)
Nice colours on what looks a nice beach, it is around freezing here in Yorkshire today. Endless sun must have its drawbacks, but off the top of my head I cannot think of any.
Thanks Paul. Endless sun would be troublesome, but thankfully we have a couple of hours break at night, phew! :P
The only bad thing that I can think of right now is that our garden suffers quite some if it's hot and windy... other than that, summer's great. :)
Clifton 4th is one of my favoured beaches in Cape Town, especially because it is sheltered from the wind!
