Pink Ice
posted by Kerry-AnneWhich reminds me... our national cricket team is named after our national flower (don't laugh - we've just gotten used to the idea ourselves :) ), and they had a particularly nailbiting match last night in the Super 8 round of the Cricket World Cup. Judging by discussions on the radio today, I wasn't the only one pacing the room and having heart palpitations while watching the closing overs of the game. Sometimes it's tough being a spectator.

Nature at its best...
I have a bit of a "thing" about flowers...I just love them. And this one is an exotic beauty.
la nature est toujours la plus forte et la plus belle et heureusement, belle photo
nature is always strongest and most beautiful and fortunately, beautiful photograph
Cute title - "pink ice" - my first thought was PROTEA! Protea's are such interesting and beautiful flowers that I get to see here in the islands - they make for beautiful floral arrangements and age quite well! Now only if I could work from home and only go to school when I have to, coach when I want to and workout anytime, that would be the perfect life =)
As for sports, our uni used to be called the rainbows but that was not masculine enough so they changed it to warriors! Whats in a name - alot I guess. Have a nice weekend!
I've never really got to grips with cricket but I can imagine being called after a flower might n't be macho enough for a sporting team.
Lovely photo..could I ask for another one when the flower is opened?

Thanks for your visit to my other blog I've put a link to you there too.
The other comments express well the general feeling about this flower. You photographed it well!
>kala, you're right, proteas do age very well, both on the bush and in the vase. One of our provincial cricket teams is called the Warriors too - I guess it's a fitting name for a sports team!
>angela, thanks for the link back to our blog! This is actually as open as this particular variety of protea gets. The King Protea (you can follow the link in my post to see a pic) has a more open appearance, as do several of the other kinds. But this one is at its best right now.
Ohhh, I frequently see this flower in high end floral arrangements at hotels and clothing stores. It's very grand and regal looking.
I buy these on occassion when they are available in my town, Kansas City! I didn't know what they were, but loved them ... they're really great when they're dried out too.
