Winter has arrived

posted by Kerry-Anne
It rained almost the entire day today. There were more than 60 road accidents during the evening rush-hour. One of the streets near our house was flooded. A tree fell over and blocked a road in the southern suburbs. Rush-hour lasted two hours longer than usual. I went out wearing two long-sleeved tops and a leather jacket, and was still icy-cold.

Winter has announced its arrival in Cape Town.

I see the rain and am reminded that I did similar shots yesterday. I like the photograph because of the rain. I also liked it because you said you were still cold -- "icy-cold." I am sure glad it is you guys and not us or me. We are still having a hard time getting rid of winter here where I live. Spring is here but it often feels like fall or autumn. I am looking forward to real green leaves on trees and things like "warm" spring rains. And nests of baby rabbits and the robin feeding baby birds in the nest.

Well, that's certainly a cheerful post :) I do feel sorry for you because winter no longer is a favorite season for me either, but cheer up---can't last forever. Your photo (and comments!) got the idea across quite nicely!!

Isn't Earth an interesting place? Winter travels around the globe, making some happy for its departure, others sad for its arrival, and the opposite, too! I love winter here in Minnesota, USA, but am always glad when it departs. The next year I'm ready again and am glad when it arrives. Take care during those severe storms!

I wonder if you ever see snow in Cape Town?

The U.K. experienced a very rare earthquake in Kent this morning which caused some structural damage, not weather but quite unusual.

Thank God for the rain! I hate it, but thank God for it. If it rains enough this winter maybe we won't have drought restrictions come summer... I hope so - I want my first summer home to be an awesome one!

Rain can be very frustrating but at the moment in my home town of Brisbane Australia they are nearing desperate measures as the dams that feed us water are almost dry!!! We are on level 5 water restrictions - no hoses allowed, 4 minute showers etc etc Send it over to us!!!!
Luckily I live in PNG at the moment where it is very wet.
