A grave subject

Burial is apparently still a more popular choice than cremation in South Africa, which means that our cemeteries are filling up fast. Of course, once land has been used for a cemetery, it cannot be used for any other purpose in the future, so I'd think some careful planning is needed here.Personally, I'd prefer to be cremated anyway (well, isn't this just a morbid post?), although I believe there are environmental concerns around the pollution caused by crematoriums too... so it really seems to be a no-win situation.
What is the custom in your country or culture?

Burial is the main custom here, although cremation seems to be gaining ground because it is less expensive.
In referance to Rambling Round's comment...
If cemation is gaining ground, does that imply that burial is losing ground?
Please forgive me finding humor in such a serious topic?
I like the angle of this photo. Put a whole new look on the gravesite.
I think that in France too burial is still the main custom.
In my country , Malta, burial is the only custom, one is not allowed to cremate. I would prefer to be cremated than buried.
here in brasil burial is the main custom although a few prefer to be cremated.
>>Susan, we make fun of serious topics all the time - I had a good chuckle at your clever play on words. :D
>>Dina, that's interesting (that cremation's not allowed, I mean) - would that be for religious reasons or something else?
