Knotty gun

posted by Paul
This revolver reminds me of a group that caused a stir some time ago. They called themselves PAGAD, People Against Gangsterism and Drugs. Ironically, they were suspected of a number of violent actions that caused many innocent people injury and even cost a few lives at times. It was a sad time in Cape Town's history.

In the past few years the South African government has been putting in place regulations to restrict the number of guns in circulation. We had an amnesty period a while back, where citizens could drop illegal weapons at police stations without the risk of being charged for having them in their possession. Many firearms were destroyed and many consider South Africa a safer place today for this.

Its strange how those who are so against violence will fight to the death to prove it. Makes no sense at all.

Pity all guns weren't made like this, the world would be a far better place.

The US is a gun owning society and most people own them and would use them at the drop of a hat if they hear or fear someone coming into their home to harm them. Most murders in this country are done using everything else. I don't think guns are the number one killer of people here but I do think drugs are.

We in the US live in a violent society, and it doesn't seem to get any better. Guns or drugs? Neither is a viable option for a healthy society!

Hmmm, is the bullet that kills or the one who pulls the trigger...
Is he/she the guilty one, or the society that gave him/her such lessons?
P.S. Tell me, you still feared to stand in front of it, didn't you? ;)

Gun violence here in Jamaica is a massive problem.

I saw a friend of mine today who had been shot by a gun man a year ago during a robbery. I almost cried when I saw him. This young, strapping, healthy man with his young family has been left a cripple all because of some trigger happy fool.

I wish we could get every single gun in the world and pile them as high as the sky and then just destroy every single one of them.

This is a beautiful piece of sculpture, called Non Violence. The artist behind it is actually Swedish, Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd.

Replicas of the sculpture can be found all over the world, but I suppose the most wellknown is the one outside the UN headquarters in New York.

Pia, thanks for the info. We saw a picture of one of the others somewhere on the Web a year or two back, and were both scratching our heads trying to remember where we'd seen one in real life... we eventually figured it out when we went back to the Waterfront. :)
