Cloudy moon

posted by Paul
Kerry-Anne's dad called earlier this evening to tell us about the unusual cloud formation in the sky. The clouds were moving pretty quickly and about 5 minutes after I was finished taking photos they were gone.

One thing that I noticed while taking this photo was the large number of aeroplanes crossing our skies at night. Several passed in front of the moon as I was taking photos, but it sure is a trick trying to take a photo of them in flight backed by such a bright moon.

You've been lucky to be there at the right time to catch these clouds! Brilliant photo.

There is a name for those kinds of clouds. My neighbor used to be a navigator during WWII and then spent the rest of his life in aviation weather at the nearby airport. He used to tell me the names of all these different kinds of clouds and when and were to see or expect them. It was an interesting education.

Maybe those were really UFOs and not planes flying in front of the moon.

Great photo, Paul. And what a coincidence - I was just looking at the winning photos in the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and look what pic won the 'One Earth' category... a plane flying in front of the moon!
