Roosters back on the bench
posted by Paul
The French rugby team (Les Bleus) lost to the English team last night in the first semi-final of the Rugby World Cup at Stade de France. Kerry-Anne and I watched in dismay as Jonny Wilkinson managed to kick the ball over the posts twice in the last 5 minutes of the game, putting England ahead. The rooster is one of France's national symbols. We found these roosters, fittingly, sitting on the bench and looking highly annoyed.
Commiserations to our French blogger friends Eric, Alice, Nathalie and Gaëlle - we do feel for you!
Visit Grenoble Daily Photo to see Gaëlle's rooster - looking slightly happier than perhaps it should. ;)
We're off to watch the Springboks play Argentina in the second semi-final in a few hours' time - any good vibes and positive thoughts you want to send their way would be most welcome.

Those roosters look as if they are having a good time.

What a line-up!!
Yes, they lost...So now, let's Springbok and Pumas play!
(and many French people -like me- think that a rooster is quite a stupid animal and a strange symbol...and many people out of France think it's an arrogant animal, so the right symbol for French :-(...)
I love the weathered look of the roosters.
Congratulations for your game tonight against Pumas and your superb victory
Thanks mum - the boys did well!
Dismay?? What's to be dismayed about, says Lynn in the UK... lol !!!
Congratulations on your win tonight, it was a great game i really enjoyed it.
So Kerry-Anne, it's you and me on Saturday LOL. May the best lady win. xx
Congratulations! That was a great victory. As my favourite All Blacks are out, I'll go for the Springboks. GO!
And thanks Kerry-Anne for your visit and comment to Blogtrotter. Love to see you there!
Congrats, you've made it to the final!
Jonny Wilkinson is the Aussi's nemesis too!!
Go Springboks against the Poms - Southern Hemisphere Rules!!!
These are so cute.
>Alice - no-one could ever accuse you of being arrogant. :) Almost every one of the French people I have met (in real life and on the web) have been lovely, intelligent and kind - yes, even the Parisian waiters! ;) You're right though, the rooster does seem like an odd emblem for a rugby team (but then the Protea is an odd emblem for a cricket team too...).
>Mum, Gil, Gaelle and Jules, thanks, we're thrilled, as you can imagine. Now we have a very long week ahead of us...
>Lynn, prepare for a thrashing! :D I don't know what the atmosphere is like in England, but everyone here is just talking rugby, rugby, rugby - even people who would never normally watch sport have been totally swept up in the excitement. If we win (holding thumbs, holding thumbs) the partying will continue for months. See you on Saturday!
That's a fabulus shot - i love it!
Good luck in the final !
Thanks Sally! (x2)
