Garden gnomes or enchanting sculptures?

posted by Kerry-Anne
The nine muses at SpierWe visited Spier Wine Estate yesterday afternoon, where we discovered these golden sculptures of the nine muses, nestling on an embankment in front of the amphitheatre.

I thought they looked rather pretty in the late-afternoon sun, but it seems I might be in the minority - I read a few rather unflattering opinions of them on the web last night. It's hard to tell from a photo, I know, but what are your impressions of these larger-than-life ladies?

Just to see something green and no snow is beautiful but I like the little statues. They are pretty and I don't mind them at all... but I'm sure there are some that will not like them, I am sure!

I don't have the money to put gold leaf on my one statue of Buddha but I also think it looks better worn, as it is, and covered with lichen. People who don't like these statues probably have cement geese on their porches by the front door, clothed in aprons and wearing bonnets. I don't like to see that much less think about the kind of people who do things like that, but they exist all over the place and think it is cool.

I like living geese whose poop I have to step around or slip in.

These are magnificent statues. Your photo of the scene is what it is. A record of your visit there and what you saw. It is your slice of time and really, do you care what others think?

I don't care what people think. But, I think George W. Bush is the worst president this country has ever elected and I would like to have brain scans of the people who elected him twice? LOL

I've actually been to Spier and the statues took me by surprise. I haven't checked in for a day or two and was pleased to see a picture of them. I like to visit you and see things I saw while in your beautiful corner of the world.
