Sea hike?

Here's a question for you: What do you suppose this guy was doing with (what appeared to be) a backpack? There wasn't a boat in sight. There was another guy to the right of this photo, also walking towards the beach. Leave a comment telling me what you think happened and/or what was going on. Tomorrow I'll tell you what I think happened.On an unrelated note, that's Robben Island that you see in the background. While I'm in the Q&A mood - which beach do you think we were at?

Were they wearing shirts? I reckon they were training for some adventure race type event - wading through waist deep water must be about on par with running up and down sand dunes :)
I just discovered your blog through city daily photo blog. I spent a semester in Cape Town in 2003, and your blog is making me quite homesick. Congrats! I have no idea what that guy is doing, or what beach you are at, but I like the pic.
