Well done to Joseph Sheridan, the clever Irishman who invented this brilliant drink. I mean, seriously, what an excellent idea: strong coffee to wake you up, combined with whiskey and cream to make you feel better.Although the weather has been a little perkier this week, and there are signs of spring's approach all over, the nights are still very chilly and I suspect there's still a fair bit of rain on the way. My strategy for dealing with the winter nights that lie ahead involves little comforts like Irish coffee, dark chocolate, butternut soup and macaroni cheese. What are your favourite winter indulgences?

Very cool image! I thought at first that I was looking at pint of Guinness, or my favourite SA beer, Castle Milk Stout.

@ben: Thanks for the compliment! I can't however take too much credit as the checkerboard look was purely coincidence. I really do love the effect also though.
I like my Dunkelweisen anywhere any time! Unfortunately a good Dunkel is hard to find!
