Attack of the Killer Robot

Killer Robot - Minimal & Techno every Friday night
"Minimal and Techno" - now I get techno, but I do wonder exactly what minimal is. I may need some help here, but from what I understand, minimalist music is very repetitive music created with very few instruments; hence minimal - predictable and with no complication.

Killer Robot is a club in Long Street (Cape Town) just over the road from the Long Street Cafe. The venue hosts techno music by DJs such as Ivan, Bruno Morphet, and AK47. It does sound interesting, I think we're going to have to stop in some time - just to check out what's happening.

Hey Kerry, I can confirm that Ivan is a pretty hot dj, he plays a bit of hip hop as well and his scratching is pretty tight.

In terms of minimal, I'm not sure "predictable" is an adjective that most producers would welcome. I think progressive, hypnotic, dubby, spacious and spastic funk would be closer.. at least in terms of the kind of stuff I like.

Ricardo Villalobos (recent fabric live mix) and (more old skool) Steve Bug (his minimal funk mix from like 1997 or something) are producers to check out.

I also think a lot of the stuff that is trendy right now derives from what guys like Richie Hawtin were doing with albums like DE9 Closer to the Edit.

Anyhow.. better shut up and go do some work
