Canon roadshow: Get your wings

I rushed through to Cloud 9 Air Charters this afternoon for the annual Canon roadshow, "Get your wings". Like at last year's roadshow, Roger "Epic" Machin (Photo Video Product Manager for Canon SA) introduced Canon's new gear, and fashion photographer Clinton Lubbe entertained everyone with his enthusiastically-presented workshop on Photoshop and lighting.

I probably shouldn't be sharing with you that each year Canon SA gives away thousands of rands of equipment at these roadshows... and I probably shouldn't be sharing that you can find out about upcoming events on their website... but now that the proverbial cat's out of the bag, if you're into photography keep an eye out for the details of next year's event.

In case you can't make out what the photo is, it's the propeller of one of the light aircraft that was parked in the hangar where the roadshow was held.

Did they have the Canon Powershot SX1 IS there and if so, did you had a look at it?

Hi Marius

The only hardware that they had on show (as far as I saw) were a few printers. I think practically it's difficult to allow a hundred or so photographers play touchy-feely with cameras and lenses.

I however don't understand why they don't arrange with one of the large camera shops to have a stall and offer selected hardware at discounted prices.

I arrived a few minutes late, so I may have missed news about the SX1 IS. I don't think they bring up point-and-shoot cameras much though. Generally the folk that attend the roadshow are into SLR cameas. I think talking about the Powershot to that crowd would evoke a similar response that bringing up a list of cool Visual Basic features would at a Java conference. :D

I've been to one small Canon Roadshow here in UK which was excellent but would so love to go to one of the large ones..

If I'd been in SA at this time I would have been the one right at the front of the queue!!

Beverley: I'd love to go to a large camera show also - so many cameras, so little time. They are nice toys aren't they?

Eric: Thanks! TBH, I was feeling a little dry... and to make it worse I think I was the only person to whip out his camera... I struggled not to feel intimidated... got over it quickly. ;)
