All play and no work

posted by Paul
This trendy beach seems to be bustling every day of the week. I find myself wondering "What do these people do that allows them to spend their days at the beach?" Camps Bay beach is backed by a palmtree-lined street filled with upmarket restaurants, beautiful hotels and... a petrol station? Strange but true. Behind Beach Road towers the Twelve Apostles mountain range - mentioned in a previous post.

Actually it doesn't seem that crowded. Perhaps it's just an angle that doesn't capture the crowd. Incidentally, thanks for your comments re. my travel blog. I fell in love with SA and would love to go back.

Hello Kerry-Anne !
-38 degrees, indeed! We had also almost same, but not quite, it was only -35.In which part of Finland your friend is coming from?
I have in my computer about 100 photos of Cape town, my daughter was there in some congress last autumn.
She liked your city very much. Also my husband and my son has been in south Africa and safaris there.
Now I can make a journey with you in Cape town. Thank you for that!

A very wide white sand. So contrast with the very blue sky. Love it.

Beautiful beach!
We get city beaches with people on them every day of the week here in Sydney too... I suppose people just come for a little while and then quickly go back to work... and the others are tourists ?

Hello Kerry-Anne, and thank you for stopping at my blog and for the compliments you left there.

I like your photograph of the beach and in the enlarged view I could see what looked like a mile or so of people on the beach. Maybe everyone is on vacation.

It seems like when we go somewhere, and we don't go often nowadays, that the place we go to is crowded and my wife (married to her for over 52 years)and I ask each other, "Do people no longer have a job?" Seems like there are people wall-to-wall.

We're having a minor snow day that has turned into an ice storm.
It was 61 degrees F on Wednesday.

Thank you for all the compliments!

Yes, the photo is a little deceptive - it did feel as though there were more people than the photo shows... where did they all go? :o

Yeah Natalie, there were definitely at least a few tourists - but for the most I had the feeling that the people were local.

Lunch time is normally about 45 minutes to an hour, so I'm not sure that they were on a lunch break - perhaps a lot of people call in to work "ill"? ;)

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and commenting. To everyone who mentioned how cold your own city is right now - never mind, soon you'll have summer and we'll be having rainstorms. :)

>>mimmu - It was actually a postcard I received via Postcrossing; I think the girl who sent it lives in Kajaani. That was at the beginning of February. Glad you're enjoying our blog!

>>alice - My skin burns very easily too; if we're going to spend some time at the beach we usually go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and I always wear sunblock!

>>nathalie - It's true, the beaches in Sydney are just the same; we went to Manly on an ordinary Friday afternoon in winter and it was absolutely packed!

It's funny 'cause I often ask myself the absolutely same question you did when I saw ppl on beach in work days out of holiday time :-)

when you find out what these people do that allows for such pampering - let me know! i have to switch professions!!! We just had the biggest surf of the season and I was sooooo tempted to head to the beach to watch the magnificent wonders of nature only to be set back to the realities of work - ahhhh how I wish and wish - thanks for the beach shot!
