Rhodes Memorial was built in 1912, in honour of mining magnate Cecil John Rhodes. An odd thing really - by all accounts, he was a ruthless colonialist, and was rather keen on making the British Empire as large and far-reaching as possible. He left a large area of land on the slopes of Table Mountain to the nation of South Africa, and Rhodes Memorial now stands on a section of that. It's an absolutely beautiful spot to spend an autumnal Sunday afternoon, and we'll show you a little more of it over the next few days.
P.S. Eamon, well done for getting it right, and thanks for stopping by!
P.P.S. Paul took this photo, and I'm in it somewhere. Let's see how good your magnifying glasses are...

Hmm is that you peeking through the columns?
I think I need to have my glasses checked!
But what i can tell you is that this seems such a nice place, built in the middle of a mountain? wow
I see a lady near the camera and I suspect that is you. Nice picture. I see a mountain or monumental rock behind this building. A great view. Wow.
I will put on the blog tomorrow a piece of the back yard to show how it looks before things begin to grow and then after it has grown. Some of my wildlife live here year round but most fly in and out or climb in and out.

On the right, near a column?
are you the one on the horse? haha...
interesting history behind the story.
malaysia and singapore were long time ago, part of the british empire...
You ladies are sharp. I'm between the two columns on the right, at the back of the shot, and that's my camera in my hands - because of course this is one of those typical "shooting you shooting me" shots. :)
I recall visiting this site--it's enormous!
Gotcha!
Was gonna comment and show how good my bloggerspotting skills are but everyone beat me to it! ;)
Could this be the start of a 'Where's Blogger' series, or for those in the UK a blogger version of 'Spot the Ball'
or maybe not, I'll get my coat...
