Pretty pinkish protea

posted by Kerry-Anne
Since everyone in the northern hemisphere has been showing off their wisteria of late, I thought we should brag with a few more of our pretty flowers too. This is another protea (we first posted one here). I'm no horticulturist though, so unfortunately I can't tell you which species this is.

Hopefully if my brother stops by (who conveniently IS a horticulturist) he'll be able to shed a little light on the matter. :) Anybody else is welcome to take a guess too, of course...

The soft lavender hues next to the green leaves make a very pretty photo.

Nice shot of your national flower. And what about your throat and nose?

My Dad used to call them Overberg roses - not very scientific but romantic nonetheless.

I love proteas. Saw them growing in Perth and sometimes we see them for sale down here. There is a plant fair in April in Sophia Antipolis and always they are on sale there. I've never tried tho - perhaps I should. Amazing flowers and a lovely photograph.

A year or so ago, a group of south Africans brought an amazing display of proteas from South Africa to the Royal Chelsea Show in London, and won big-time I seem to remember.

Jilly, our team always seems to do pretty well at Chelsea (at least our Proteas are good for something - see my earlier post on the cricket... :D ). They reconstructed one of their displays at the V&A Waterfront a couple of years ago, and it was awesome. One of my travel dreams is to visit the Chelsea show, actually - I read a wonderful book about it a few years back, which definitely lit a fire.
