Traffic lights and pedestrian crossings

posted by Paul
Traffic lights at a pedestrian crossingFor some reason this photo reminds me of whiskey - which is something that at this point in the week I have a dire need for. :) Work-wise the pace seems to have increased for all of us as we head towards the end of the year. It seems as though there's just far too much to get done before December holidays. This brings me to the tag line: just keep walking - it's almost holiday time.

Speaking of holidays, summer has started at last - the weather has warmed up and by all accounts our swimming pool water is warm enough to entertain the notion of taking a swim. It's going to be a beautiful summer, and Cape Town, as always, is ready for it!

Our impression of the pedestrian crossings in CT was that the green light was on for a very shot time leaving very little room for slow crossers to get safely to the other side, and well, many drivers weren't too conciderate when it came to that... It did feel *slightly* unsafe at more than a few occasions.

I think you're right, Pia - other cities that I've been to (with the notable exception of Paris! :P) do seem to be more pedestrian-friendly. We always find that we have to rush to make it across in time, and I have thought at times how difficult it must be for older people or those with disabilities.
