Back to the future in a Kombi

Flower-power

Remember the 1985 movie Back to the Future, with Michael J. Fox? That's the one where he managed to use a DeLorean DMC-12 (that's a car) to go back in time to 1955. This Kombi made me feel like we were heading off to the 1960s...

This was the vehicle that I referenced in the posts about our wine trip. I'm sure now you're able to see why it was so much fun. The "tour operator" is the brightly coloured lad (thanks, Charl) in the photo who took us from farm to farm, restraining his tasting to ensure that we'd arrive alive.

The trip in the flowerful and music-filled VW Kombi was a stack of fun - in fact, it was so much fun and so retro that we felt like we'd gone back to being students again. ;)

I’ve always wanted one of those. Too bad their brakes aren’t very good and I don’t have space for it :/

I often think that I should’ve been a child of the 60’s though. Or perhaps it’s just movies like Across the Universe that makes it look so cool :)

Hey Jonathan, I haven’t even heard of that movie! :) I think there’s a reason for bad breaks. If they were any better on our trip we’d all have ended up on the floor. #seatbeltless. ;)

It almost made me think of trading my car in for one. The following day reality dawned and sense prevailed. :D

Paul, are you in any way a Beatles fan? Across the Universe is a musical that uses songs just from the Beatles. The story is entirely based on Beatles songs with characters such as Jude and Lucy and Prudence… it’s really good and if you know at least a few Beatles songs you should be able to appreciate it!

Heh, Beatles… no, unfortunately I wouldn’t know a Beatle if I fell over one (which, admittedly, is difficult – they’re so small). ;) Seriously though, I probably know the song but wouldn’t know it to be the Beatles.
